PATHWAYS for CAREER SUCCESS puts you on a fast-track for a high-tech career. The program provides opportunities in many areas of emerging technology. Whether you already know the path you want to take, are undecided about which area to focus on, or have changed direction in your career plans, the program’s flexibility makes it easy to get on the right pathway.

Plus, after you complete any two-year segment, you can enter the workforce or go on for more education. If you continue – or go back to school later – credits you already earned can be applied to the next degree. That means less time in school and a more direct route to an exciting high-tech career. It can also translate to lower tuition costs for completion of your certification program or degree.

Applied Engineering Technology

Applied Engineering Technology/Engineering

Do you like to tinker with gadgets to make them work? Applied Engineering Technology (AET) consists of careers in machine tool technology, process technology, mechanical or electrical technology and enabling, creative and sustaining technologies such as power creation/ energy and nanotechnology. Applied Engineering Technicians work side-by-side with engineers, designers and architects to work to bring their ideas and concepts to reality.

AET - Delaware County Community College

Engineers in these fields have a depth and breadth of knowledge that allows them to design gadgets using conceptual skills and engineering fundamentals to develop solutions to meet economic and societal needs. They spend their day designing structures, machines and systems while considering the limitations imposed by cost, safety and practicality.

Biotechnology

Biotechnology

Do you want to improve the lives of people or the environment? Biotechnology involves the use biological processes, organisms, or systems to manufacture products intended to improve the quality of human life. Sometimes called the scientists of the future, technologists in the field of bioinformatics manipulate DNA in humans promising significant advances in health care and new intelligence about genetics, how genes shape who we are and how we function. Agricultural biotechnologists, one of the newest and most exciting fields in the biotech industry, shape the future of farming for plants and animals.

Electronics Technology

Electronics Technology

Curious about how things work? Electronics is a branch of science and technology that deals with electrical circuits involving electrical component such as vacuum tubes, transistors, diodes and integrated circuits. The nonlinear behavior of these components and their ability to control electron flows makes amplification of weak signals possible. Technicians are able to install phones and home-alarm systems, fix commercial and household machines, troubleshoot and do computer repair, serve as a telecommunications and radio technician, and many more.

Electro-Optics Technology

Electro-optics

Electro-optics technology is everywhere – barcodes at checkout, TV remote control, turnpike EZ pass to name a few. These are examples of using light, or optics, to control your environment. Electro-optics technology is one of the most rapidly growing technical fields in America today. Students learn the basic understanding of lasers, optics, and electronics necessary to assemble, test and perform diagnostics on today’s modern laser and electro-optic systems. Electro-optic systems are used in medical, entertainment, communication, industrial and manufacturing environments.

Information Technology

Information technlogy

Like working with computers? Information technology (IT) is the use of computers and software to manage information. This involves storing, protecting, processing, transmitting information necessary, or retrieving necessary information at a later time.

Computer Security is a branch of IT involved with the protection of data, networks and computing power. The protection of data (information security) is the most important. The protection of networks is important to prevent the loss of server resources as well as protecting the network from being used for illegal purposes.

Energy

Energy

Pennsylvania’s many natural resources include natural gas from the Marcellus Shale, a deep geologic formation stretching more than 95,000 square miles through parts of Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and New York. The Marcellus Shale lies beneath approximately 60 percent of Pennsylvania’s land mass and is expected to contain enough natural gas to fuel our nation with clean-burning energy for decades. Today, natural gas producers use the latest technologies in the exploration and production of natural gas, providing good-paying jobs and significant economic benefits to individuals, families and entire communities across Pennsylvania.

Manufacturing Technology

Manufacturing
technology

Would taking raw material and making something useful from it satisfy you? Manufacturing technology enables individual workers turn raw materials, such as steel, wood, or oil, into affordable, quality goods essential to society. Everything around us must be produced by machines, from our cars and other means of transportation, I-phones, computers, medical instruments, modern communication devices, to name a few. Machine technology tools are power-driven, non-portable manufacturing machinery used to perform specific operations.

Machine Technology - Machine tool technicians create products such as medical devices, prosthetics, automobile/ aircraft components and other specialized materials that support industries such as aerospace (the space shuttle) and many of the products we use in everyday life. The machine tool technician creates these products through the complex programming and application of computer-aided drafting (CAD), design and machining technologies.

Mechatronics, sometimes referred to as electro-mechanical, robotics, or industrial automation, is a combination of mechanical, electrical and computer control systems. It provides new functions and capabilities with more accuracy and lower cost. The application is extremely broad with the technology used in automotive anti-lock brakes, auto focus cameras, video, hand disks, CD players, planetary exploration rovers and medical imagining systems.

Robotics Technology

Robotics

Agile Robotics is a $100 billion emerging industry that consists of next generation, intelligent, often times mobile devices, vehicles, and machines that reduce the need for human attention, interaction, and intervention in repetitive, dangerous, and inaccessible places. Robotics technologies are emerging in many industries, such as healthcare, manufacturing, utilities, agriculture, defense, and homeland security. A substantial number of these companies are located in western PA. The 2+2+2 initiative is designed to prepare students for a career as a robotics engineering technician.
